Re: Ciguatera and Lion Fish

I am aware of the test kit that was marketed years ago.
Would be interested as to why it failed and if anyone has any information.
Do you know what kind of methodology was used in "detection"?

That's getting way out of my area of competence! The term immunology seems to stick in my dim memories, what ever that's worth! IIRC, the practice was to take a small sample of the flesh of the fish, put it into a solution for 20 minutes and then dip a bit of "litmus paper" into the liquid and compare colours with a chart. There may have been an additional step... this was many years ago! They did supply a means of testing for both false positive an false negative results... unfortunately for us, we had already used the materials for those tests on a previous fish.

Sorry that I can't be of greater help. I'd sure be happy if a good successor was marketed, for we now just don't eat tropical fish anywhere near a coral reef system, and we used to love them.

Cheers,

Jim
