Question Anyone near Elfin Cove, AK with a SSB Radio?

I'm hoping someone with an SSB radio can make contact with a friend on a sailboat headed to the Elfin Cove/Auke Bay/Juneau area. He was about 139 miles out earlier today (56.62,-139.93). If you would be willing to try, please PM me. Thanks in advance!

If it's really SSB you don't need someone close to where he is. Do you mean VHF?

SSB doesn't really have a listening frequency unless you know that he participates in a net. Does he have a modern DSC set, in which case if you know his MMSI number he could be called using that.

At 139 miles I would suggest he is beyond VHF range. Also you should be aware this is a world wide forum, would be helpful if you said were Elfin Cove actually is rather than expecting everyone to look it up. Did he manage to get the propshaft sorted you asked for last time?

Pete, in England, that's the soggy corner of NW Europe.

Re: Anyone near Elfin Cove, AK with a SSB Radio?

It is a SSB, he is (or was) on 8294 twice daily at 0400 UTC & 1900 UTC. I know you don't have to be right where he is but too far away and it's hit or miss on reception. If anyone is willing and able to contact him PM me for name etc.

Sorry, I was tired and abbreviated Alaska, my bad.

Engine was working, but he wasn't sure about reliability. Last messages (one way only from a spot connect) said they'd been thru a 3 day gale and steering was now questionable.

Kathy...

Try these guys...
International Boat Watch Network - (Who We Are)

Also, start googling ham radio nets...

Best of luck!

Thanks, but the boat watch network looks like it's for true emergencies and this isn't an emergency. The other problem is he doesn't have a ham license so can't talk on those frequencies unless it is an emergency as well.

I was thinking of posing your question there, and seeing if somebody might help, or finding an SSB net utilizing links... Not necessarily using the services as in an actual "emergency"...
