Anyone ever USE int'l health insurance??
Several months ago, I contacted a Florida insurance broker who carried health insurance policies from several European insurance companies.
The services provided and the rates shown appear to be fairly attractive. Then I wondered whether or not anyone ever tried to actually use these policies when they were in a foreign country. So, have you or anyone you know ever tried to file an insurance claim for a broken arm, breast cancer, hospitalization etc., from one of these companies while you were in a foreign country(specifically the Caribbean if possible)? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Insurance
I once tried to make a claim under a foreign travel insurance company, Worldwide Mediclaim Travel Underwriters , based in New York . When I told them I didn't have a credit card for them to put my expenses on( and force me to go to court for reimbursement) They simply refused to pay. Others dealing with the same company have told me that they had similar experiences.

Thanks, I was hoping the response would be a postive one, but I wasn't holding my breath.

Mark,
While I can't say I filed a claim, I was covered by Lloyd's of London through this company while working on megayachts in the caribbean: International marine crew medical and health insurance from eGlobalHealth Insurers Agency, LLC Again, I didn't have to file any claims, but I figured Lloyd's of London was fairliy reputable. Also, make sure to really read the policy and understand it fully. It is legally binding. If Brent had to use his credit card to foot the bill, I assume that was somewhere in the fine print. (just assuming) Read carefully! ![]() |
