Any problems crossing borders with Prescription Meds ?

i.e. not the fun ones .

My guess is that as long as clearly labelled (with dispensing contact details still on them), and that nothing "dual use" .........that unlikely to be a problem - but any stories to the contrary would be of interest. and simply whether customs were interested at all?

Have travelled internationally with some Meds before (in hand luggage and for run of the mill temporary stuff) and never had a problem, nor even queried - but that only by Jumbo Jet.

FWIW, just spent the last couple of months getting prodded and poked etc by a couple of Consultants - not quite got the definative yay on 2012 being it's usual length......but pretty much there............They have however come up with Meds that I will be required to take for the duration - perhaps a side effect of a past lived badly , apparently I may not be quite so indestructable as I had thought .

The good news is that I can carry on smoking . and with both lungs (well, the Docs didn't phrase it quite like that ).

More good news is that Docs happy to dispense the Meds in 3 month batches - and from what was said, a 6 months supply wouldn't be a problem.

Being part of a Socialised Healthcare system , a dozen or so Hospital visits etc and enough Meds to open a small Pharmacy cost me........SFA ......slight downside is that I will have to remain a resident of Jersey - even when I am not .

DOJ, your avatar creeps me out! As for meds no still in the pharmacy bottles but they did question syringes but only briefly after reviewing accompanied paperwork.. If in doubt carry a note from the doctor and you'll be fine. SC

We carry a full paramedic kit and more as both my wife and i are trained to "ships captain medical officer" level...we travel with two little ones and the grandparents and a good friend who is a GP convinced us they wouldnt let us leave otherwise...

...anyway our kit has MANY controlled substances including morphine derivitives. We have uptodate prescriptions and explanations on letterhead from the docs that gave us the stuff and also keep the "schedule 1" or equivilents in a seperate container that receive on of those litttle wire tag locks that some countries require. We also have every single medical item in one place and a full itemized list and copies. We find that when you overwhelm them with overprganized paperwork they are fine. That and the fact that you are legally allowed to carry medical supplies on a sailbaot helps.

We have entered/exited with this kit; South Africa, Brazil, Trinidade, and US

We have gotten strange looks, especially when they see our small oxygen tank, but no problems.

Edit: Forgot to mention that we declare our kit at first opportunity. None of the above works as well, especially in the states, if they "discover" your morphine...

While looking up the name of the naughtiest drug in our stash i realized that "schedule 1" was inaccurate. Our bad boy is morphine sulphate in preloaded syringes and it is schedule 1 in canada, schedule 2 in states, and schedule a in uk

That makes sense and useful to know that my paper shuffling skills will come in use after all . and being upfront is a good idea.

In my case no Morphine nor anything else "dual use".

If you put them in a locking cabinet, that helps too.

I also carry 90 day supplys on board of my meds, including a time release pain med. Wife is an RN so we keep everything as they would be in the hospital LOL everything in the script bottles, in a locked med case with all the paper work from our home doc.Been to Mexico, the Bahamas, Belize. never had a problem YET. Hope it stays that way!! Haveing lots of Offical looking paper helps !! Bob and Connie

We carry a shocking number of prescription drugs, but none of them are narcotic based (unless you count codeine/acetaminophen headache pills). When filling out entry forms we say something to the effect of "personal meds, no narcotics" in the appropriate blank. No official has ever blinked at this, nor asked to search the med cabinet (not locked or sealed, BTW).

This has covered most of the nations between the west coast of the USA and Oz. Other places may be more concerned, and perhaps us being (at least in recent years) identifiably in the old fart category eases their suspicions somewhat... who knows?
