Windward or Mona

Hi all, and thanks for this website. Simple question: going WEST from Boca Chica, South of Hispaniola, would you favor Mona or Windward? Looks like I've just lost a good chance at taking Mona in quiet weather. Mona will be a bit lively in the next week. Anyone did the Windward Passage North? I am on passagr from Boca Chica to the USA...

Re: Windward or Mona

Have done the Windward a few times, north and south but the Mona I have passed north and south of but never through.

I would consider a few things making the decision. Is the forecast for winds from NE, E or SE? What strength?

If strong NE winds I hear the Mona can be a bit bumpy but at the same time the south coast of Hispaniola you could be becalmed if close in. Also the Windward would be a slightly longer route and likely some southerly current to slow you down.

Unless the conditions in the Mona were really bad I would go that way.

I think the same. Wait for a lull and take Mona - it's only about 4 hours anyway... Thanks
