wind tools

Currently, we use gribfile to get the wind information on openpcn.
However I have noticed the windy and predictwind which are more user friendly. Now, I am choosing the wind tools between windytv and predictwind to get the weather for my spain and portugal coastal sailing. Any comments on these tools.

However, I don't think they can be used on Atlantic crossing. So I may have to use satellite phone/SSB etc.

Re: wind tools

Whatever is available on the web, is available everywhere.

Ssb / radiofax are somewhat less convenient.

It is all in your choice of comms onboard basically.

Re: wind tools

Predictwind processes a higher resolution grib on the server and sends the route and lower resolution grib via just about any sat service so you can use it for crossing. Not a bad solution.

Thanks all of your comments
Barnakiel - what do you mean the less convenient using ssd/radiofax?

Predict wind has a very good interface which is the only reason I still pay, but their own 2 models I find are very hit and miss , after a load of logging GFS is the best down here in Portugal anyway.

They're based on the lower resolution GFS data anyway so don't have any higher resolution data to work on.

Good app & website though.

Fastseas also does weather routing via email now as well I think, haven't tried it yet.

Re: wind tools

Earlier, this spring I was looking for good Gulf of Maine current gribs perhaps Rtofs, predictwind and many others did not have them. I guess they follow Noaa, but noaa is being defunded. Sad.
