Which Navigation App for iPhone ?

iphone on the way. (4s)

Lots of apps out there.

App store is crappy to navigate.

I want, more for fun, but don't want junk if I can avoid it:

nav app
tides
weather
radar

How to pick one that others (that know several) have rated?

Re: Which Navigation App for iPhone ?

People are using nav apps on their iPads...it's a recent thread. The more pixels you have for an electronic chart, the better. I think it makes a huge difference. Maybe this is why it is not as popular for a phone?

I use NAVIONICS on my I Phone. Just downloaded it for 9.99 a couple of weeks ago. Seems to be a nice back up so far.

I use flytomap & navionics on my iPhone. The flytomap will show the mile markers & the mile. Navionics used to before a upgrade over a year ago. I also use anchor alarm.

Re: Which Navigation App for iPhone ?

I use iSailor, free to download and you purchase charts. It seems more accurate than Navionics but the charts are fairly pricey ($25ea) still the chart are fairly large so are a significant savings over paper. The extra pixels of the iPad would make this much easier to use however as a back up I have found this app to be very good.

I would give it 4/5

Re: Which Navigation App for iPhone ?

Be very careful of some of the more expensive apps that do not support vector charts, chart stitching, or charge additional cash for charts that can't be re-downloaded after a period of time. Basic rule of thumb is that if it costs more than $30 as an app it isn't worth it. Navionics has good cartography.

I used Navionics on my iPhone as my primary navigation device for a 4 month cruise up the Inside Passage.

I think it's a fantastic product.

I was thinking that one too as that is what a friend has and says is good. I can use the NOAA charts I can download right?

But my friend tried to show me the place to download the app on his phone a few days ago and could not find it. Did it go away?
