Re: Where to Purchase Paper Charts

I would try Bluewater Books and Chartsin Ft Lauderdale, Florida. They have extensive charts and information. Maybe call them if you are in the State's

In a lot of cases you can now get copies of paper charts as PDF's (eg all US charts) or there is an option to print from chart cartridges or file. If you have, or can get access to a large format chart printer these can be printed out. You can also get water resistant paper. I have found that printing either half size or half charts on 13x19 paper is very good for making backup charts and much cheaper than commercial chart supplies.

Or use an outfit like frugal navigator mentioned above who already has the printing and stock setup at usd$15.95 a chart.

Thanks a bunch everyone. Looks like I have some research ahead of me. I'll explore these options and post back what I find.

Captain's Nautical in Seattle They have a huge selection of chart books as well as printing charts now on request. They have an extensive inventory/selection of chart areas available, but you would have to browse or check with them to see if they have the specific ones you need.

Re: Where to Purchase Paper Charts

I checked quite a few charts and ended up purchasing British Admiralty charts from Safe Navigation in Long Beach, since they were reasonably close to my home. Thanks for the tip Dsandduril.
They weren't cheap but seemed to have the best large scale coastal navigation charts (15000 to 1). I tried Imray and others but couldn't seem to find those kind of large scale coastal charts for Croatia and Greece.
Thanks again for everyone's suggestions.

Re: Where to Purchase Paper Charts

Nightdiver,
I suggest you bite the bullet and get an up to date plotter such as Raymarine Axiom (running LH 3) or equivalent and then a Navionics card. You will probably need a plugin converter from NMEA 183 to the latest 2000/Seatalk but that is not rocket science for the electronics guys. You might also need to change the radar if you have an old one.

Cheaper way of getting good Navionics charts would be to subscribe to the App on yr phone or iPad but this may leave you with a problem of visibility in bright sunlight or heavy rain.

Either way, if you are on the eastern side of the Adriatic such as Croatia you need good accurate up to date chart info. Most of the things you might hit have been around for a while (=rocks!) but some approaches might hv silted up, particulaly on the Italian side, or some others might now hv been dredged.
Best of luck
Andrew

For Greek water use Eagle Ray paper charts..these are packaged in book folio form

Fantastic charts https://eagleray.gr/en/

For Croatia use 777 harbor guide

https://www.marinechandlery.com/777-...ro-7th-ed-2017

And use Croatian hydrographic charts ..packaged as chart folios and called
MALE KARTE ...MALE translates to small

You need all three folios to cover the coast

Re: Where to Purchase Paper Charts

Nightdiver,

I chartered a boat out of Athens and did a couple of weeks around the Cyclades two years ago. I used Eagle Ray's Sea Guide, found it superb, complete set of official charts including large scale when needed, detailed pilotage and a good amount of local history/ tour guide info of all the islands.

They aren't "cheap" purely as charts, but including Pilotage etc etc I think great value (You won't need Hienkel's excellent book if you have these for example)

https://eagleray.gr/en/pilot-book/

Hope you enjoy the trip (We did!)

Spot on. You can order on line very easy. I am currently moored in Greece and have Imray charts for most of the Med inc the Agean. What is also is that they have harbour chartlets inc on the chart.

Re: Where to Purchase Paper Charts

Hope you don't mind me going a bit OT, but I would strongly advise you to have a redundant electronic system - that could be absolutely cheap. Just install on your smartphone and/or tablet Navionics charts: the Mediterranean package comes for around $20 a year, very useful here.

Re: Where to Purchase Paper Charts

Of many sources I have used, two have proven to be reliable for the charts I take underway:

Maryland Nautical:
https://mdnautical.com/211-nautical-charts

Bluewater Books and Charts:
https://www.bluewaterweb.com/t-_BwLp...al_Charts.aspx

You may want to get cheaper charts for planning purposes, but for what you rely upon while underway, don't skimp.
