What's this symbol?

This symbol appears on my vector charts, and is part of the "Nature of Seabed" layer. I haven't seen it before, and can not find it in Chart #1.

Anybody know this one?

Re: What's this symbol?

Try hitting "A" to turn it off. It may be part of the seabed "muddy" "sand" "rocky" etc

I don't want to turn it off. I want to know what it means...

I guess I should be clear, since people here will assume this is OpenCPN. It is not. The program is PCPlotter, using Navionics charts. In everything else I have seen PCPlotter complies with EDCIS standards, so I am assuming this is something a bit unusual.

Well if it complies with ECDIS Standards you should be able to 'highlight/tap on it and the information should be displayed, thats how vector charts, and especially ECDIS compliant systems, are supposed to work.

Having said that, Navionics and PCPlotter in no way comply with "IMO Resolution A.817(19) - IMO ECDIS Performance Standards" so that symbol could mean anything

My understanding is that Navionics charts are just vector databases, so the question of "complying" --or not-- with any display standard is mote. It's all about the program that is using them.

I know it could mean "anything" that's why I am asking...

Re: What's this symbol?

I have searched google "Ecdis Seabed" and have not found the symbol in the links I selected. I suggest you ask directly.

Re: What's this symbol?

Is it a reference to Note B? What does Object Properties or the equivalent on your system say?

You stated "PCPlotter complies with ECDIS standards", it does not! it would be great for the shipping companies if it did at only £165.00 a pop lol!

And as far as Navionics goes? you will not find a compliant ECDIS system in use that uses a Navionics vector database or anything else connected with Navionics, Navionics only connection to ECDIS is they obtain "some" data from the same sources as those supplying ECDIS compliant charting software.....

So i reiterate, if your vector charts/software/program are any where near ECDIS standards, you should be able to highlight/click on the symbol and the info on what it is should pop up.....
