Sure, I'm addicted enough to chart plotting that I would surely have my IPad with INavX somewhere in a waterproof pouch, for just such a case, even though, without a keel, there are very few hazards which concern you which you can't see with your eyes. But in any case, you don't need a chart plotter off soundings, and you've got no way to power it in a dinghy anyway. Once you're out of sight of land, all you need is what a simple wrist-watch GPS will tell you -- DTW, BTW, COG, SOG.
