I've seen this at the gas docks on the lake here many times...but never with that amount of tonnage.

Obviously gear shift and throttle failure or the skipper has a thing about docks.

I don't think this problem is just for motor yachts. One of the first Beneteau Senses was lost when it did a similar act to a pier.

The power of these vessels is awesome. In the video the big yacht is accelerating just before it hit.

Several years ago a similar large yacht was docking in Yacht Haven Marina in Phuket. The lines were down and the engines in neutral, but still idling. A crowd had gathered on the dock to watch the docking and greet the vessel. The captain left the bridge and a crew member pushed the throttles forward to install the cover. The boat surged forward with its massive power. The crowd stepped back. But 15 year old Ali van Os did not. A bow spring line ripped a large cleat out of the dock which stuck Ali and she suffered massive injuries and died later. Crystal Blues: The Brightest Star - Ali van Os

These superyachts pack a lot of power and have a huge potential for damage, injury and death.

I caught the video on local TV. If you watch - it does pull out deck cleats. 2 I believe and they go flying. It doesn't even phase the large yacht - acceleration stays right on up until impact with the dock and the other boats.

Here is the link from KING 5 news which starts just a little earlier and shows the cleats on the end of the dock lines whipping around

Turns out there was a Youtube sailor tied up at the guest dock next to the fuel dock.

I'm impressed by the little sailboat that took the hardest hit ... no doubt some nasty damage in detail ... but still floating and even the mast still upright. A tough little boat!
