Yes, auto recieve would be nice. Good idea to print out the schedules as well. Atlantic it did become defining moments of the day, beep beep beep, ah surface analysis and 24h prog time again

I saved the freqs in adjacent memories so flicking through them to find the best signal was easy, though you usually knew from the time of day anyway.

I think much depends on how much one understands the fax. I think grib is a nice thing in any case, if one can afford the equipment.

Modern phones do not need the modem anymore. A friend uses the Inmarsat one and is mostly glad. The issue is the antenna, same as with Iridium - data flow on the one that is contained in the handheld unit is shaky and poor. An external antenna is expensive though.

I have a SI-TEX not very pleased with it. Used it with a matched 4 foot antenna which was recomended for it and needed a tunable antenna pre amp. It worked but could have been a lot better. The I Com R75-22 reciever around $600. Which I think might have been better. Had almost as much in the SI_TEX when finished. Have my ham license now and will go for the transciver this time.

I am not sure who recommended the antenna to you but a 4 fter is something we will use for a VHF radio, not for a HF radio. Use a proper wire, 10 meters or so and you will perhaps change your opinion on the unit.
