Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Now, I have a question about when POI's in Routes, when they can be "Hidden" or not. Sometimes a Route POI (R00024 for example) will not hide, even when the "Hide Intermediate POI' checkbox is toggled off, "Apply" is hit, "Hide" is checked again, and "Apply" is hit a second time. I wonder why these POI do not hide?

Is it because the POI has been moved by using "Shift-Left Mouse" and is not considered "Optimal" or "Optimized" because its placement is by hand?

no such thing. If you hide intermediate POIs in a route only the first and the last one are shown. There is no way to hide the first or the last one, except if you hide the route itself.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Hmm, puzzling. Perhaps I added an intermediate point and it won't hide? Is that possible? It is NOT checked on the "Do not simplify" box, but does not hide when the "Hide intermediate POI's" is checked. --I'm going to go back and check this further.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Yes, I Edited a route that had R00070 an intermediate poi showing (I did not add this poi to the route), unchecked "Hide intermediate poi" and "applied". All poi showed. Then checked "Hide intermediate poi" "Applied". R00070 still shows with a green box and date and time info. Edited R00070 and found that "Not simplified" was unchecked.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Looks like Kirke and Maitai have improved positions. I have closed the massive gap, but there are so many at the head of this race, it is hard find something different to do without finding someone else is doing it. There is no such thing as spliting tacks when you are behind. There is always someone in front no matter what you do. New mindset to get used to.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Maitai, I think I might have hit "VLM sync" maybe three times, probably too quickly, and I lost the boat "rgleason" and a message came up "You are not the boatsitter anymore"!!! I am sorry I misbehaved by hitting VLMsync impatiently, how may I get my boat back?!!

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Whew, I, logged in with the boat again, no change, then "Closed without saving", and the boat came back.

-Starting to study use of the VLM web instruments on a Droid phone with Browser, when traveling. Is this practical?

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

There is a small app for VLM/Android I think. More info here: AndroVLM - Outils de navigation pour VLM - Navigation tools - La Taverne and here: AndroVLM - VlmWiki

I know nothing about it, so in case of pbs or questions better ask on VLM's forum directly.

In any case you can use VLM web's interface directly, although it's not very user friendly.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Thanks Maitai, will check it out. Without doing something I am not going to end up below 100, so I am trying a flyer as a last ditch effort, nothing to lose.

I wanted to mention something I should have used by now.
Copy Route. Want to test or optimize a favorite route? Edit Route > Copy.
Then change the name of the original route slightly and close. The hit Control V to Paste. Edit Route and change the color of the copied route, and perhaps uncheck Vmg-Vlm and optimize it.

And a 2013 toast to you, Mr. Stamm!

Bernard Stamm: « Bye bye 2012, hello 2013! » - Vendée Globe 2012-2013

I see the field has narrowed to 2/3 of the original fleet, but now there is decent weather at the horn. Good Luck!

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

AndroVLM Wiki in English using Google Translate
Good start on a valuable app. Some bugs evidently. Have not tried it.
Allows piloting, but does not appear to provide Routes - Routing.
Charts are still rudimentary like the Web app.

Yes, Happy New Year 2013 is going to be a wonderful year I think.

Re: VENDÉE GLOBE round the world race

Wasn't paying enough attention, thought I could slide through a low trough, on grib update the bottom of the hole hit the boat...Went from 8 to 124 in 2 hours. Well I got below 100 for a short while. Sometimes the long route favors west other times it favors more east. Long distance timing is impossible but essential.
