Re: USA, alerts...it is proposing Sovereignty

I think from a contiguous land point of view, Canada would have a first claim to the land mass and would have to negotiate where the border is with Russia. Much as the US would like to think that they have a claim to everything, there are some folks north of the 49th Parallel who migh see things differently. Phil

Is this the first sign of global...Warming?

Or is it business as usual?

It seems that with the ICE Breakers and everything they/we do up there...it should be theirs to grab.

???

I believe the first sign of global warming was when the ice sheets started to recede after the last ice age. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The first US person to note Global Warming was President Thomas Jefferson.

He logged daily Temps, Rainfall, Snowfall ....365 days a year for 15 years at his farm.

Very interesting reading, his notes and thoughts about his statistics.

There is no land
The arctic is mostly international waters. What we are talking about here is extending national waters and agreeing on economic zones.
Norway and Russia has just come to an agreement on their border, and I believe Norway and Denmark (Greenland) has one too.

Well, if it was on NPR it must be unquestionably true. I've never heard false, cooked one-sided reporting or bad data on lefty socialist NPR.

Did you know that where I stand (Michigan) there was about 6 miles of ice 12,000 years ago? If it weren't for those cave men burning all that timber I just don't know where I'd live. The sky is not falling, just changing as usual.

All of the big powers are flexing muscle and as usual, follow the money. The Chinese want 'worthless' uninhabited Japanese islands on nationlistic & historical basis. Turns out oil is likely there. Arctic has oil, fish, minerals - and now accessable. Go figgure.

Since the Russians have already planted their flag on the north pole does that make Santa Claus a stateless person?

Climate change deniers are so cute, like two-year-olds who have just learned to say "NO".

Too bad the change will mess up cruising weather patterns long before the beaches are moved

Yeah! And I wonder how much it cost. I'm sure the EPA will get involved once we try to develop it.
