US Army Corps Inland Waterway Navigational Charts

We received a dvd of the Inland Waterway Charts free from USACE and I have been trying to install the charts without success. We have successively used Opencpn on the coast using the NOAA free Charts but I am not having any success getting the same detail to display, depth, etc. all I get are green outlines. I have downloaded the .zip files from the Army Corp site, unzipped and added them to the active chart directories and they will not display any additional information. Really don't want to use Fugawi. We are planning a cruise from Mobile, Al to St. Louis, MO in a month or two and I want to chart the anchorage, fuel etc. in Opencpn.

Re: US Army Corps Inland Waterway Navigational Charts

I just downloaded the USACE charts for the Lower Mississippi and intially had the same problem. Just a green outline of the area covered by the charts, and no detail. The charts did not show up on the chart list bar at the bottom of the OpenCPN window.
Then suddenly OpenCPN started to process the charts and generate the SENC. I can now display the detail on the charts and they show up on the chart list bar. I don't know why OpenCPN did not pick up the charts when I added the folder to the chart list, nor do I know what caused OpenCPN to finally process them.
Anyway, they do work in OpenCPN. If all else fails try forcing a complete rebuild of the chart database.
Interestingly the charts do not display any depths.

Fuel stops on the lower Mississippi are very few & far between. In a couple of months depending upon rain the spring rise or flood will be there adding speed to the current. I've thought about going down but even with diesels & 304 gallons of fuel I'ld need a fuel bladder to get back, i'am on the upper at the 283 mm. South of St. Louis there is 1 stop Hoppies for fuel till Memphis. From there on south I think it was 400+ miles to fuel, you may be able to get truck deliveries if you need it. Good luck & let us know how it goes, it's a trip I'ld like to make.
