UKHO's Total Tides Software

Just starting to sail in the UK but to date most of my sailing experience has been in the non-tidal Med, and whilst planning the route using tide tables etc can be done, Reeds Almanac have recommended the UKHO Total Tides software.


I have never seen it in practice... does anyone recommend it, and know if it is possible to get a free trial of it, so I can test it out.

We use it on commercial ships and it is an excellent easy to use piece of software. However it is also very expensive and so far as I know the UKHO do not offer a 'light' version for recreational sailors. Also you have to renew the licence annually - for a fee. Try checking their website and they may offer a free trial but it is very much aimed at commercial customers.

Thanks.. nothing is on the website, in fact you cant even buy it from them direct!
It is expensive, hence wanting to try it first...

thanks, yes it is helpful, but was after a bit of software that will help me plan a trip from the Hamble to Falmouth, accross the bay and ending in Gib!

Hi Steve.. does the software have to be connected to the internet to use it?

So, can you plot your route and waypoints into the software ... and will it then calculate your tide window?

Tidal stream atlas should give you as much as you need for the channel and ushant

no. you can not do that. also, there is good FREE program for tdes.

thanks, I have tried this, but it doesnt want to work on Windows 7. Will stick with the Easytides free stuff. Thanks for your help anyway.

dont know which windows 7 you have. it should work with win 7 (prof) 32bit. on my laptop work without any glich. cant tell with w7 64bit.have not tried it yet on windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on pc. actualy i am going to install it now, and see is it working on w7 64bit.
