Tall mast ports east coast usa

Is there any consolidated source for listing marinas and ports along the east coast of USA for boats that don’t fit under waterway bridges? I know I can look at charts along the way but for backup planning it would be nice to have one place to look for where to duck in while heading south. Lots of waterway guides for the intra coastal but not much on just accessible from the Atlantic.

Probably not, because it’s often a function of which approach you take. Generally speaking, any port right on the ocean is accessible to taller masts/structures, but not always.

Any ideas what areas you want to visit? If you have some general locations I'm sure members of the forum can get you harbors in the area without restrictions.

Also on that topic what height do you need.

We clear the 65' bridges (only just ...) but definitely have looked for the taller entries. The options are limited and oddly I've not been able to find a good list.

There are lists such as this one that includes all the lift bridges on the ICW, and they go into more detail including locations of 65' bridges in state by state lists such as this one, but a definitive "infinite clearance ports" list I have not been able to find.

If someone had spare time on their hands that might be a good thing to work on. Ports and marinas that are accessible by high clearance boats. The problem is setting parameters on it. Does a 100' bridge cut off the route? What about a 30' wide opening? Or a 6' depth?

Maybe a database of all ports and marinas with the maximum height, width, and depth clearances to approach, and entry fields for your boat's requirements. Then the database spits out a list of all accessible marinas.

I can say that in Ft. Pierce, Fl that Harbortown Marina is a direct shot in from the inlet. The Safe Harbor operation is very nice and has lots of service options.

On the east coast it's not just the bridges that are an issue but also the depths of the channels. In particular this is true for a few of the anchorages that can be accessed from the Atlantic.

Washington, DC is accessible with masts to 130' and 15' draft... well worth the trip up the Potomac River!

A second Ft Pierce and Harbourtown Marina, we have stayed there several time going both North and South. It is a straight shot in the inlet then a right turn up the ICW and it is on the left, no bridges or shallow water. They also have a nice restaurant and bar.

Re: Tall mast ports east coast usa

The East coast fixed ICW bridges are all 65' now and excepting the remaining opening bridges you have the clearance entirely. Crossing Lake Okeechobee and the west coast that changes and is various.

Looking on any charting program (active capt, waterway guide) the latest info is usually available.

As mentioned previously, the issue is not masts but depth of water and why are you "ducking in"
the various deep inlets are well marked and generally commercial, with very high bridges.
The others are shallow and local knowledge only- particularly not someplace to shelter into with a storm and easterly winds.

more info would be needed on your draft/mast, and hull speed under power. This is important for some of the currents excess 3 knots and that provides another challenge.
Utilizing the internet and desire to explore, spend time on waterway guide. com to see all the restrictions, hours of operations, and other hazards.

Potomac river is beautiful, but the woodrow wilson bridge to dc is only 70 feet and probably will not open without an act of god or trump.
fair winds

Be aware the although it's not part of the ICW, the bridge over the Cape May Canal is only 55 feet.

No they're not. A couple to mention Julia Tuttle north of Miami and the Wilkerson Bridge in the Alligator Pungo canal NC.
