Steiner Commander III Binoc rubber coating.

Our Steiner Commander III glasses are great, but they are at least 10 years old, and for several years, the rubber coating has deteriorated to the point that the coating has become very sticky, rubs off, leaves sticky marks, etc. I finally cut away most of the covering in order to be able to use them without having to cleans my hands and surfaces off with acetone.

Anyway, I realize the rubber coating is not covered under the Steiner warrantee. I recently read that Pioneer Research (North America Steiner) would replace the rubber coating for a 'nominal' fee. Went to the Pioneer web site, but they no longer service Steiner products.

Does anyone know of such a service for Steiner binoc? If none exist, I may try using the 'rubber' paint sold at Ace Hardware (actually a 'dipping' solution) for use in insulating electrician plier handles, etc. - I tried this rubberized paint to patch the most 'sticky' areas on my Steiners, but it wasn't all that successful.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.......
