It's not a good time to be there.

We've been there. I feel your pain man. You should have already been in the Bahamas by now.

Have a Merry Christmas wherever you are.

It's been said that a bad day on the water is better than a good day on land. I'm stuck in MD and I would trade places with you in a NY minute.

I only do the ICW around South Florida in an emergency.
Usually go outside, the bridges can be a pain....

Re: Southern Florida ICW on the weekend

The first time I ever went through Miami and Ft. Lauderdale I was in my 26' double ended gaff rigger, with an old, beat up 10 hp Evinrude for power. I knew I was in trouble when I saw a sign which said "Speed Limit 35 MPH".

After that experience I swore an oath to never go through that area again on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

Having seen the boaters there, I'm fairly certain they're trying to

Lot better than coming in off the lake on a Sunday into the craziness around Navey Pier in Chicago!

Don't stop, keep going. Things smooth out and slow down a bit as you get into the Keys.

My personal opinion is that it is too early to go to the Bahamas. April-May is good to go. Come back any time you start taking 'nice' for granted.

Re: Southern Florida ICW on the weekend

If you're in the WPB area, immediately south of the PGA Blvd bridge you can tie your boat up at Southside Tikis and get yourself an nice Rum Runner. Float a little Meyer's on top. Takes a lot of pain away.

Ben,
I wonder what you'll think once you're in the Exumas . . . especially Georgetown?

Re: Southern Florida ICW on the weekend

I used to keep my boat in Sunny Isles. The ICW south of there to about Dinner Key, on a weekend, was the biggest collection of doofusses with boats that could be found anywhere on the planet.
