Sonar Charts in Bahamas

I am planning to sail through the Bahamas again soon. Previously I had used the Navionics charts. They now have sonar charts integrated as well which give much more detailed contour lines. I heard they have added to their maps in the Bahamas recently. Does anyone have experience in the Bahamas using the Navionics maps/app?

Re: Sonar Charts in Bahamas

I have the latest Navionics chart and it is crap. Worse than my ten year old Navionics. Unfortunately I had to replace my old plotter and the new Raymarine takes a new format but still Navionics crap. The new N

The new Navionics no longer has the "borrowed" Explorer data on it.

Hi hogHunter - if you would like to see the charts before you buy them please go to WebApp | Navionics and check the out for yourself.
Navionics adds over 2,000 updates to our charts daily through the Freshest Data Program.

Vasco -Can I ask what Chart you have? Have you registered the current chart? Have you done the Freshest Data update? Have you looked at the new Bahama's Charts? Please go to WebApp | Navionics and check out the charts.

Re: Sonar Charts in Bahamas

Unfortunately with electronic charts you have to be there to know how inaccurate they are. Looking at them on the web or on a plotter tells you nothing. It's only when the track is taking you over an island that you see how crappy they are and that's Navionics in the Bahamas

Re: Sonar Charts in Bahamas

Vasco - so you can't answer the questions that where asked to you to help you, so I will ask them again. Can I ask what Chart you have? Gold, Platinum+, Navionics+, Navionics World, Navionics Update. Have you registered the current chart? Have you done the Freshest Data update? Why not see if we can help you on this matter. That's what I am hear to help. With your Raymarine what is the Software Version? Again hear to help.

Gold. Bahamas.
MSD91SRYM

It's still crap. As I said before worse than my old chip 1G906XL3 that had Explorer chart data that was removed from later versions because Navionics was not licensed to use it.

Re: Sonar Charts in Bahamas

No data on much of the chip. No soundings. Not even an accurate outline of the shore in some places. Just straight lines. Just look at Normans Cay it's a joke. Luckily I rely on my Explorer paper charts and knowledge I've gained over the years. Next season an iPad and Garmin charts.

Re: Sonar Charts in Bahamas

There was some info within the past year on the internet, can't remember which forum, concerning a catamaran which went on a reef. That incident was blamed on Navionics.

It was right here Lagoon 450 (Next Life) damaged in the Exuma, The Bahamas

The thread contains a number of important questions about Navionics, that were left unanswered. That included unanswered questions regarding updates and sources for updates.

Any Navionic update should be treated as suspect until verified by other sources. Recently a Navionics "update" for the Solent area near Portsmouth (UK), without relation to reality, even lead UKHO to query their "sources".

Re: Sonar Charts in Bahamas

JNoel....I believe the questions have been answered. Like many here, I appreciate your involvement in the forum and await your answer. While that captain was a FOOL for "believing" the electronics in a place the eyes work so well, the fact was the Navionics showed a safe passage....sooooooooooooooooooo?????????????
