Look up/Google both "Tevake", & the book We The Navigators
. Both are old (obviously), but have tales & information more in depth
on the subject of navigating by feeling specific swell patterns as they pass under a vessel.
There's also more on this via the Polynesian Voyaging Society. And the crew of the vessel "Morning Light", a TP 52, crewed by a group of collegiate sailors (sponsored by Disney), spent some time learning
a bit of this from them. As something of a spin off for their preperation for the TransPac. It's on the DVD
of the boat's name.
PS: Some of the books
are free for download, online.
