SeaClear help

After reading all the posts on SeaClear I decided to d/l it and try it. As I have also read, the manual for SeaClear is less than helpful. Can someone PLEASE help me to get the NOAA charts into this program. I have not been able to figure this out and am pulling out the little hair I have left.

Thanks for ur time
Ed

I dont see that you ever got a response to this, so here it is.

You need MapCal II which is a part of the Sea Clear II Package. You use it to import charts into Sea Cal II.

Depending on the type of charts you are using there are different ways to access them. But if they are already in the correct format you just use "Charts" "search" and make sure you have set the directory where the charts are using the preferances button.

1. After downloading the zip file, unzip it
2. open the unzipped folder( It will have the same name but will not be "Chained")
3. move down into the folder with the chart name you want.
4. copy the KAP file you want (i.e... 411_1.kap) into the Seaclear\Charts folder
5. open mapcal II
6. select "Tools" dropdown
7. Select "Autoload List"
8. select "Scan for New Charts"
9. When this is done, select OK
10 Open Seaclear II
11 select "File"
12. Select "Chart"
13. Select "List All"
14. You should soon see the Chart listed
15. Click on file and it should display.

All of these steps must be done in the proper order!
Good Luck,

Thanks for the reply. However I do not see a "kap" file extension. After I unzipped the NOAA file the files I ended up with were 2 ".txt" files and three files that had the following extensions, ".000, .001, .002".

When I just unzipped and try mapcal program I get the message "no new charts found" And I do have the directories set as far as I can tell.

I have been trying to d/l from Maptech but keep getting error message and have not been able to d/l anything.

Please Help
Thanks
Ed

here is the link for noaa raster charts sounds like you may be down loading the wrong files. I think there were 2 kap. files when I down loaded one works the other doesn't. Office of Coast Survey - NOAA Raster Navigational Charts

Sounds like you downloaded the S57 vector charts. SeaClear won't work with these, you need the raster charts per sabray's link.
