Seaclear and G7towin

Seaclear uses G7towin to up and download information to/from your GPS. As my first pass on trying to use this I have to set my Garmin to Garmin/Garmin Host interface protocol to use the functions (i.e. get/put tracks or routes) that are made available by the G7towin utility (from within Seaclear), and then change my Garmin back to NMEA protocol to use the pretty little boat on the chart saying this is where you are mode.

Anyone know how to make this work without changing the interface protocol on the Garmin back and forth?

Thanks, John

Unfortunately, no... NMEA is a standard that everything talks, but by it's very nature of being simple and generic, it also has limited features - so to perform functions like data upload/download you have to use GARMIN mode. I always thought it would have been nice for Garmin to include proprietary sentences that would allow software to switch back and forth to make this transparent (potentially at the cost of other devices on the network) or in an encapsulated mode (at the cost of speed), but oh well.
