Re: Savannah to St Augustine

It's so easy to navigate with USACE (United States Army Corps of Engineers) survey overlay.
There're very detailed data for St. Augustine Inlet

Outside to Jax, St. John's river just past Mayport to ICW south. Nice long lovely cruise with nothing but wildlife (eagles), lovely north Florida peace on the water.

Great pic. I hear there is a chartplotter app that is incorporating those surveys into the charting function. That will be sweet.

We have gone in and out a lot and didn't find it intimidating. I guess we don't do it in bad weather as that might change things. I dislike Fort Pierce more just because of the current against wind thing. :-)

Re: Savannah to St Augustine

St. Augustine inlet is only dicey farther out, inside the first few markers where the shoaling is always shifting. A call to TowboatUS when approaching the sea buoy will give you up-to-date info on the best track to take.

Last time I went in, during the call I jokingly mentioned that I hoped I'd not be calling him back shortly. He said "Don't worry it's the ones that don't call ahead for info that end up in trouble".

General rule: if you see less than 10' turn around and try a different line.
