Samsung Galaxy 10.1v Tab and OruxMaps

Finally aquired a Samsung Galaxy 10.1v Tablet which will make it a lot easier to run ANY program or app. The tec. guys at the internet shop where I bought it were so kind as to upgrade it to ICS for nothing.

I am using PocketCloud Explorer for file moves, which also includes 10GB
cloud storage,so the limited storage of the 10.1v is no longer a problem.

Using TeamViewer I can also run all my Win based progs. on both my Laptop and Desktop.

OruxMaps have just brought out their latest v. 5.0.0 beta 22
You can get it here: Latest

You can import optimized routes from qtVlm in .kml format with the latest wind/stream forecast for the journey.

Re: Samsung Galaxy 10.1v Tab and OruxMaps

According to the press yesterday, the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Tab has been banned from sale in the US by the United States Suppreme Court in support of a suite filed by Apple.

If Apple is THAT worried about the Galaxy 10.1 Tab,I am VERY pleased I bought it. Could´nt have had a better recommendation!!

I purchased a Chineese-made USB pendrive adapter the other day which is no longer functioning after changing it twice. I have now put in a mail order from the US for a genuine Samsung adapter. At $ 27.- plus a hefty 100% import duty in Brazil,it comes out at just about the same.

The combination of OruxMaps nav. prog. and the qtVlm route optimizing prog. is truly impressive, making use of existing wind and tidal stream gribs as can be seen from the attached map/track. Tidal stream gribs were only available approaching Skagen, the rest of the track shows only wind gribs.

You can download .kap format maps from OpenSeaMaps and easily convert them to OruxMaps using the OruxMaps Desktop. Some maps, like the attached Elbe estuary,do have marine navigation details, but no soundings presently.

OruxMaps have just come out with their latest release which has a lot of new features.

OruxMaps will also let you store all your maps on an external USB pendrive and supports imported enhanced routes from qtVlm in .gpx format based on current wind and current .grib files.

Re: Samsung Galaxy 10.1v Tab and OruxMaps

My present Samsung Galaxy 10.2 Tablet setup running OruxMaps with converted .kap charts.
The USB extension hub has a Bluetooth mouse dongle and a 16 GB pendrive containing all MY maps and navigation information. The bluetooth mouse makes it very easy to run all the features of OruxMaps. I hope soon to be able to get a 1 TB Corsair Air WiFi drive making the extension hub unnecessary.

Re: Samsung Galaxy 10.1v Tab and OruxMaps

You can easily convert ANY of you .kap charts to the Oruxmaps format using the free OruxMaps Desktop prog. Each map conversion creates a directory with the name of the map containing TWO files. Just copy this file directory to your oruxmaps/maps area on your Android device.

If you do not have the .bsb bitmap of the .kap map,you have to extract the bitmap from the .kap file using the FREE BSB Converter. Put all the .kap files you wish to convert in a TEMPORARY file and they will all be converted in bulk.

You can also use GE2KAP to convert any display in OpenCPN to a .kap map, even Google Earth. Useful where you do not have any detailed maps.

Re: Samsung Galaxy 10.1v Tab and OruxMaps

Hi Sinbad7,

I have just come back to this forum after an absence of about a year. THe reason is that I have just got a ShipModul Miniplex2-Wifi.

So I am interested in finding out what Android apps I can use on the Asus Eee Transformer that can take in the NMEA data from the Wifi. Does OruxMaps do that?

thanks

Re: Samsung Galaxy 10.1v Tab and OruxMaps

meridian..

As far as I know,OruxMaps does not have any wi-fi connections presently but works as a stand-alone Android nav prog using maps from normal .kap conversions through their PC based OruxMapsDesktop prog. It uses your tablet GPS for tracking your path. You can also import sophisticated .kml format Optimized Routes from qtVlm. (PC) displaying wind and tidal stream info at each waypoint.

You can of course also use your tablet in the cockpit and TeamViewer to run OpenCPN from your laptop on the chart table below. As long as you have internet access, all the connection facilities of OpenCPN will also be available.

meridian..

Here´s an example using my Android Galaxy tab to control my PC and OpenCPN via TeamViewer and a hotspot set up using Hotspot Control app.

Works a treat!!
