Sailing from Tacoma to Ketchikan

Hello, all! I have a Aquarius 21 that a friend and I plan to take on a trip from our home in the South Puget Sound area to visit some family of mine in Ketchikan, Alaska via the inside passage the summer of 2014. It is a single masted fractional sloop for which I have the main, a full jib, two storm jibs, a genoa, and a spinaker. Have any of you taken a similar trip with a comparable vessel and can share your experience? This would be our first long cruising voyage so I am interested mostly in what type of supplies to pack, beyond the obvious essentials, and if anyone has an estimate as to about how long the trip will take. Also, I need to purchase and outboard motor for it and I have heard that due to the prevailingly southern winds, it is necessary to do a lot of motoring. Can anyone suggest an appropriate motor? One with good fuel economy rather than excessive power would be preferable. This would be a round trip experience, but we can of course resupply along the way and before heading back south again.

Re: Sailing from Tacoma to Ketchikan

We've spent many summers between WA and Glacier Bay in SE Alaska on small boats, but power rather than sail. Our first was an outboard-powered C-Dory 22 Cruiser.

You might find some useful information in my book. You could take a look at a preview including the table of contents at this link:

Cruising in a Big Way by Richard Cook (Paperback) - Lulu
