Raymarine AutoHelm 2000 engagement

I have an AH 2000 which works well when engaged but after using it, when I throw the lever to "release" its engagement with the wheel, it sticks. I can't get it to fully disengage and as a result, the helm is very difficult to turn. What is causing this?
Thanks,
Len
