problems with Garmin handheld 76CSX

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if I got a faulty unit. While sailing this summer (using Garmin Blue charts) the unit would seem to get lost. Colour shading would disappear from the screen and the boat cursor would be surrounded by a large circle line. When I scroll to the satelite status page it shows plenty of signal as it should seeing as how its outside and unobstructed. Battery power is also OK. So I wait to see if it refinds itself but no..so I reboot and voila, colour shading reappears and now showing proper chart detail, boat position.....Anyway its a real pita...... Anybody know what might be going on here?? Cheers.

I have a fair amount of experience using and abusing the Garmin 7-series of GPS devices over the last 8-10 years.

what you describe sounds like the "+" or zoom in key is stuck and you are seeing an enlarged circle of confidence. If you bring the GPS inside for a few days in a climate controlled area, do you still have the problem? The keyboard is covered by a rubber membrane that can fail. If it does not fail out of the humidity, it would seem to reconfirm the theory.
