First up I'd like to say I'm enjoying this thread. The blue planet rally is at this stage planning on the red Sea
route http://www.blueplanetodyssey.com/blu...rary-schedule/

Obviously there are risks regardless of where we sail. It's about making prudent decisions and accepting consequences. I'm looking at which way to go come 2015. Having been in Thailand/Malaysia the last two years you do get to engage in this discussion at a different level. I have met a number of people that have come from Madagascar and the Med. Its a hard one, fear gets in the way of logic and sometimes it should because our logic can often be flawed to get what we want. At this stage I'm seriously considering the Seychelles, as I just don't wake up in the morning wanting to go the more southern route.
Cheers Dale.

These are both from the ICC Web site, this whole area is now classed as a High Risk area.

Sorry, Jimmy Cornell's Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) doesn't go up the Red Sea (of course). But Jimmy also runs Around-the-World rallies, & that's what I was referring to. Jimmy Cornell's current Around the World rally is called the Blue Planet Odyssey, & that's what is going up the Red Sea.

No they are not. Not until 2016.

Please read the above line.

Now please understand it.

Re: Pirates in the Seychelles?

if heading on the southern route via darwin ,cocos keeling, rodrigues, mauritius, durban or richards bay i personally would not worry about pirates, especially during the tradewind season.

even heading around the north end of madasgasgar to mayotte in sept the risks are minimal.

Hey Mark, yes we get it. No ones saying its this year or next. Its a healthy discussion we are all having, to help us come to our own decisions about future plans.
cheers Dale.
