OpenCPN with BSB v4

i recently sailed to canada and bought one of their digital chart cd's only to find that they are in bsbv4 which contains a proprietary encyption nonsense that opencpn, being proper, cannot support.

is there any hope here? a bsb3 to 4? or do i have to change software. ( i like opencpn, clean, simple)

do any of the other free progs support bsbv4?

many thanks

I've heard Canada has a huge charts issue due to the prior monopoly arrangement with absurd pricing etc. The situation may improve now that the governmental agency has managed to purchase the commercial rights to its own governmental charts back from the company. opencpn/seaclear don't support bsb v4. Can you not procure the charts in an older format? Opencpn supports C-Map charts by the way, which should be available for Canada.

I've just used Open Cpn on a delivery from BVI to the Chesapeake. Worked like a charm: would like to have been able to see my own track but apart from that its great.

One thing though - I had a hell of a problem - which I'm not sure I've solved - of loading charts onto it. It didnt seem to want to take everything from C-Map (which I have on my computer) or the NOAA charts which I have in Seaclear 2.....more research on my part is needed and its probably self-inflicted injury as my charts are "all over the place" (as is my music and my photos!) on my computer! These are part of the feature set. For C-Map, the directory structure seems to be important. I have gotten both of these sets to work. You may wish to file a support/debugging request at sourceforge.
