Is there an Opencpn app for Androids yet?

Re: OpenCPN For Androids

Several people are successfully running OpenCPN on Android devices in a Linux chroot, there's an extensive thread about it at OpenCpn Install on Android Tablets Easier Now.
Native Android version is not to be expected in a foreseeable future, if ever - Android uses a modified Linux kernel, but on top of it, it's a totally different, and pretty limited, platform, incompatible with pretty much anything OpenCPN is based on.

Pavel:

Mind this 'pretty limited' platform: "In September 2012, 500 million devices had been activated with 1.3 million activations per day."

The other thing you are talking about - Linux (?) - what is it?

I would absolutely love an Android OpenCPN, even if it were to start with a 'Lite' version!

Re: OpenCPN For Androids

barnakiel...
OpenCPN for Android would mean an almost complete rewrite and a completely different user experience, so you can as well start using one of the navigation apps already available for Android at no or low cost. Or you can do your homework and learn what Linux is and how to run it on your Android device. It's not rocket science, but not a "Click there and it's set" either...
It's nice that there are half a billion Android devices. There's also probably several billion rice bowls on this planet - neither of these is a platform on which OpenCPN could run and it's an unchangeable fact - By limited I meant what it can do and how we can develop for it, not the quantity of course.

Re: OpenCPN For Androids

I have found where I can get Free Noaa Charts but they only cover the USA. I need charts for West coast of Mexico the midway down South America.

I have used opencpn and CM93 charts on my Laptop for a couple of yeasr in the South Pacific. But the lap top uses Much more power than an Android. My laptop because it has to go to an inverter uses as much power as my Refer/Freezer to run. The Andriod will charge direct from 12V and only uses a fraction of the power. Which is a big deal on a sailboat.

That is why I want it too. I would love to have the CM93 charts on my Pantech Element. We still have a new Raymarine chart plotter, but another back-up in the cockpit is nice to have.

Pavel,

Thank you for a clear response. I understand OpenCPN is not due to happen for Android.

It is a sad fact given that the whole universe is gone mobile now.

Possibly, who does not jump on this wagon, is a dinosaur?

Cheers,

Re: OpenCPN For Androids

Are there any chartplotter apps for Androids for free or close to it that are even close to open cpn that have world wide chart coverage?

If so please direct us towards them.

Open Google and go into thing called Play (this is the Android shop). There type what you want and browse what you find.

This far I have found a mix and match of functionality but not a single thing to cover charts, AIS, weather overlays, wx/route planning, (you name it) in one package.
