Online weather routing

It would be interesting to see how this behaves in the world, but certainly a lot of fun to play around with in the virtual world.

Enjoy

Thanks for the link. Though from the thread's title I was thinking that this referred to purchasing time with a professional weather router. But for an intriguing tool, gratis, I'll give it a look/try It's easier on the credit card than buying time from one of the Vendee team's weather routing crews.

It's very cool actually - though I never put too much faith in forecasts
But even being pessimistic it can give you a table to get an idea when is a good time to leave and how much motoring you might do based on the forecast and polar.
Are there polars available for the vendee? Would be interesting comparing

Re: Online weather routing

I just ran a few scenarios over a few time periods over the next 96 hours and it does look like a useful "rough cut" tool for visualizing routes. I compared it against my planning for this week and it confirmed some pretty straightforward route scenarios I had formulated given a front I'm going to have to deal with.

Perhaps most interesting is the email functionality. Send an email with your departure and destination coords and it will shoot you back a KMZ file. You can authorize any email addresses you want in settings, including Iridium, Winlink, Sailmail etc.

Some may turn up their noses at routing programs but they can be very useful as a first swag at planning a route. This one is free, and it's also exceptionally easy to use. It's going in my online weather and passage planning toolbox.
