On-Line Chart Viewer

NOAA's On-Line Chart Viewer: http://www.nauticalcharts.gov/viewer/

”... NOAA’s 1,000-plus U.S. coastal and Great Lakes nautical charts are viewable here on-line. Each chart is up-to-date with the most recent Notices to Mariners. Use these on-line charts as a ready reference or planning tool. Use one of NOAA’s printed or digital charts on your voyage ...”

Lucky you, UK government makes us pay through the nose in pints of blood for our charts etc.

Same in Aus.

Only charts you can view for free over here are postage stamp size.

Seeing as the U.S. military spends so much time over here shooting $hit up, they could at least put "Shoalwater Bay" and it's surrounds on that list.

U S tax dollars at work. This is what they are suppose to be doing with the taxes, as well as keeping the buoys, light houses, RDF's towers (?), weather mapping, and GPS sattelites up and running.

Fortunatly, the whole world benifits from the GPS.

Okay, So what is up with downloading ENCs or RNCs off of NOAAs sight? Are there any open source pieces of software that read these file formats? (IE anything free). Why, when I go to download thise files do I get some kind of java run time error message? I have a mac. Is this bad for sailing? Do they float?

This is the sight I am talking about.

No that is what I am saying, I tried that sight and it didn't work for me either. I was wondering if it was because I didn't have the software to support it or if it was because I was on a mac. Does anyone know anything about this?

The sight that Amgine posted was an online viewer for printed charts. The one I am trying to get to is for ENCs and RNCs (Electronic Navigation Charts and Raster Navigation Charts)
