Need Some Help, Please

i have a computer on Board my Fishing Vessel which i am running the Nobeltec visual 7 on my Windows XP Desktop Computer..

My Problem is Getting an Erratic Screen...Sometimes when i am sailing along my Boat will come off the charts and onto Land Making it hard to Set Routes and Stuff...

I was connected to my GP-31 Furuno For the GPS Signal but i now have another Mushroom which i can connect directly to the computer..

1. Will this Work if i connect directly to the Mushroom and what is the matter with the erratic Behavior of my Chartplotter

2. Can someone let me know which wires to connect from the GPS to the 9 pin Serial Port...i know its 2 3 5 but colors would be better for me..haha...
