Re: Navionics for ipad/iphone

I have been offshore with no cell coverage and with my iPad1 and iPad3 they both held the positions correctly.

Re: Navionics for ipad/iphone

Hi,

Can you tell me how to have the chart in HEADS UP rather than NORTH UP. Also, is there a way to set it to a magnetic heading. I like some of the features on the navionics and some on the INAVX I wish the Navionics had a help manual and more boat info on the screen, such as heading and speed. Thanks, George

Re: Navionics for ipad/iphone

For my personal experience, Navionics not good, because:
- they some time lost downloaded charts, usually when update, but I not sure
- not connect to instrument - most important is AIS
- not allow import Track prepared on PC other than build in sync, but how do this at sea?
- download weather just over internet and not open received by satellite e-mail
- POI - very good idea, but worst realization, nobody check it. Several times some "good mans" clean phone, for marinas what I personally add, now somebody delete info about my home port, it's not serious
- have different program for different region
- has many error - some of them I send to Navionics, but just one answer - we now very busy ... with this quality, of course I'm understand You guys
- very bad support - they answer after months (2-3)

For this reason - it's still just toys, not for real navigation

Re: Navionics for ipad/iphone

Thanks for the note. I also have INAVX which has all the instrument connections if I had a blue tooth AIS receiver or my gps was sending a blue tooth signal. I will take another go at the INAVX but the Navionics was easier to plot a route. At least the INAX has a user manual. George

I make route on MacENC, and some time - use iNavx as receiver all information from MacENC from navigation table

Re: Navionics for ipad/iphone

I don't have a Mac computer on board. I only do coastal cruising out of San Francisco Bay. I would love to find an inexpensive AIS receiver that will talk to the INAVX program on my IPAD 4g.

Another problem I have with INAVX is when i'm planing a route I cant go for one chart to the next. I have down loaded all the west coast charts which was over hill since I didn't need the ones for Mexico right now. I will play with the inavx new week when I'm on the boat.

Bazzer

just tested it six weeks ago on the iphone. it is more up-to-date and accurate than the raymarine gold in my chart plotter.

Re: Navionics for ipad/iphone

Navionics recently changed their app now called “Boating”. Since I changed to this new app, my GPS in the IPad does not seem to work properly. I use an IPad 2 with SIM card. It always worked very well until changing to the new app. Anyone has the same experience?

Navionics for ipad/iphone

‘Boating’ on my early iPad seems to stop track recording, or crash completely, if I use other apps. Really frustrating. iSailor will keep recording if it stops, which it does less often. Are we supposed to do nothing else while recording a track?

Re: Navionics for ipad/iphone

Since 90%+ cruisers happily sail with chartplotter chips several years out of date, even a monthly update of LNM would be nice. There are more important things to worry about.

The standout advantage of Navionics is crowd-sourced Somarcharts . On the ICW and most other popular cruising areas these provide far more accurate and granular soundings than any other chart system. In shallow waters, I keep an Ipad with Navionics beside my chartplotter and constantly compare the two. If they disagree, I slow down and trust Navionics.

The new Ipad version of Navionics released about six months ago (“Navionics Boating Marine and Lakes”) is a huge improvement and includes Active Captain. It replaces the older products. If you are still running one of the older products, you should download it from the app store. You purchased charts will still work.

Re: Navionics for ipad/iphone

It says it requires iOS9. Does the iPad 2 support that one? I finally had to dedicate my iPad 2 as a music player since it didn’t seem to run any of the latest apps.

Re: Navionics for ipad/iphone

Thanks Jim. It has IOS9 but that is the latest it will take. The newest now is 12.2. So it might be the problem. The app works fine on my IPhone but it’s a bitch that I will have to buy a new IPad with cell just for the navigation

Re: Navionics for ipad/iphone

Does the latest Navionics app allow you to read boat information? AIS? Speeds, etc?

That was always the missing part a few years back when I used it.

Regards,
Simon
