Moving SeaClear Charts to a Different Computer ...

I've been converting USGS Topo maps for inland lakes for use with SeaClear......

http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sum...%20Aids-1.html

This has been going fine, but the problem is that I've been doing these on a desktop computer at the house and also a laptop and would like to move/copy them onto the computer used on the boat.

They are in the final WCI format that SeaClear can work with and that seems to present a problem as when you view the folder they are in you can't see them and if you view the folder with MapCal you can see them and right click on them and copy them, but can't paste them into a new folder.

In MapCal I can convert the WCI files back into BMP formated files and they seem to keep the calibration, but there again I can't copy those files either to another folder or flash drive.

At this point I have converted USGA files on the desktop and a laptop and would like to get the converted files that are calibrated off of both and onto the boat computer.

I can take the BMP formated USGS maps and put them on the boat computer, but then have to go through the calibration over again and convert them to WCI.

I can't believe that there isn't some way to move calibrated files between computers and merge them into the "CHARTS FOLDER". If this would be possible I could e-mail attachments to others of the lakes I've done and they could use them directly.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Sum

Sum,

Two things come to mind:

1. You may have a bug that affects the Clipboard.

2. It may be a permissions problem.

What operating system are you using? Can you copy other files?

BTW: I do this all the time so it is suppose to work.

Using Vista (hate it) and yes I can see and copy files from anywhere other than the "charts" folder and they can be hidden files.

I got around the problem.....

Computer-Chartplotter Build Index

....by doing the above.

Now the really strange part. I had converted about 16 USGS maps the other day and had the problem of not seeing them or being able to copy them except by doing what I did.

Now Last night I did 4 more maps exactly the same way and all four of those WCI files are visible in the "charts" folder and I can copy them normally. I have no idea why.

I had a computer store for a number of years in the mid to late 80's and found out then that if something was finally working to just go with it and not waste a lot of time trying to figure out why. I'll do that now .

Thanks for the help,

Sum

Sum,

Funny thing happened today. I was creating some charts and suddenly I had the same problem as you. So I did some investigating and found that was indeed a permissions problem. If I right click on the folder from windows Explorer then Properties...Security it showed the Users didn't have Full Control. I changed it and now it works OK.

Just FYI..

That might of been my problem. I though permissions were granted to the right users when I checked that, but I think I did reset them again to all of the users. I can see the 4 charts created since then, but still can't see the previous ones and have had to deal with them as I stated above.

Thanks for the input,

Sum
