Re: mississippi river charts
Follow the link in my signature for free charts.
It will be in the top section - raster charts for US Rivers.

Re: Mississippi River Charts
Why not make your own Mississippi charts from Google Earth and the fantastic GE2KAP software?
I just did,for the upper part including all of New Orleans. Put OCPN in quilting modus and you have a navigable chart with more details you's dream of in a normal chart, less of course soundings and nav marks.
Also possible to do overlays as per the attached.
You can see the faint yellow Path created with GE before saving the kml file needed by GE2KAP to automatically produce the map tiles.

Dan, when I followed your link this is what I found:
"River Raster Charts
I haven't found the river charts in raster format, but they may be there somewhere. If you find them, please email me"
Like you, I've never found a source for raster charts of US rivers. It seems the only choice is to go with the vector charts published by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Bearcreek, your best bet is to switch to OpenCPN. That's why I made the move from SeaClear.

Dang. I feel like an idiot. I am the one usually responding to posts telling them the river charts can't be found in raster... And then I point someone to my own website to make absolutely SURE they know I am an idiot...

Re: Mississippi River Charts
I have now the whole of the Mississippi river covered until well past New Orleans in 'quilted' .kap maps. A lot of megabytes though.

Re: Mississippi River Charts
Sinbad7- It might be nice to put them up somewhere for download. It sounds like it might take a bit of time and CPU to replicate your work.
BTW what does a cruiser in Brasil, from Norway, want with the Mississippi?
Thinking about it, perhaps I should think about doing the same for the Columbia and Willamette.

New Orleans is one of my old 'drinking holes'. Favorite bar was 'Open Door'.
Still remember 'Chartres'!! But that was YEARS ago, memories, memories.
I even went horse riding along the shores of Lake Ponchatrain.. he he
Load the attached .kml files (one at the time) into GE2KAP and it will create all the .kap charts for you. But don't use the Google Earth version later than 6.1.0.5001.
P.S. They also work in SeClear but I don't know if it can do quilting?
Regards
Torwe

Re: Mississippi River Charts
Sinbad7 -
Hi. Thanks for that. I only asked that others might benefit - it will be a while yet before the boat is refit and ready to go, and a lot longer before I get back to the East Coast and do the Great Loop (a LOT longer if I keep spending so much time on CF!)

Since it's all new to you, I'll combine some things said in a couple of my posts and what fgd3 said to correct my mistake.
If you get OpenCPN - free ==> OpenCPN | Official OpenCPN Homepage - it can use the free ENC river charts linked to on my website. It's the first block under the "Vector Charts" heading.
