McCellan / Kerr Arkansas River System

Hello, thanks for letting my join. I am looking for info on a recreational boat passage on the MKARS from Catoosa Ok to the Mississipi River and on up to Memphis. Not much on line about this waterway in terms of fuel and services. Does the Quimby's cruising guide include this waterway? Thanks for listening.

I know it has I believe the Arkansas that comes out of Oklahoma, if your boating on the inland rivers a quimby's guide is well worth the money. I'am in Mn. working on a boat & don't have my Quimby's with me & can't give you a definite answer. Good luck

I don't have any helpful information to contribute, but I cross the MKARS all the time and even used to ski in it. Every single time I cross it I dream of how amazing it would be to navigate it all the way to the Mississippi and into the Gulf of Mexico.

Let me know what you find and if you end up taking the trip; I'd be so curious to hear the details!

Best of luck!

Can't help you navigate it, but I spent lots of time on the Arkansas River in my youth. That's some fast water, it's the most lethal big river in America for drowning deaths. Look out for that undertow if you go swimming! Great fishing...

Re: McCellan / Kerr Arkansas River System

Thanks for the replies. I am contemplating buying the 2013 Quimby's but haven't been successful in learning if it covers this. Hate to spend $50 only to find it blank. The Corps office in Tulsa says they have some info for $12. So may head up that way to get an idea.

Hope to hear from someone who has actually made that trip. I'm sure fuel could be an issue, since its primary function is barge traffic, and they likely have enough diesel to make the whole 450+ mile trip.

My 2000 Quimby's has 5 pages covering the Arkansas from the Mississippi up to mile 421.6 at Catoosa OK.

That is a clue, anyway.

I will check my quimby's when I get back to my boat in a day or 2, we've run out of parts for the perkins in the boat I'am helping with & if the overnight delivery doesn't get here tomorrow we're done.
