Capt. Mark,

Too many to count :-)

Actually, depending on the day, you might find three VHF handhelds (marine, ham, aviation), two fixed VHF (marine and ham/marine), a satphone, two fixed HF ham transceivers, one fixed marine HF/SSB transceiver, one HF backpack transceiver, a 406 EPIRB, two 121.5 EPIRBs (for homing beacon use only), signal flags, flares, and a signaling lamp.

I used to carry a homing pidgeon, but he crapped all over the decks :-)

Just call me paranoid,

Bill

Well the whisper is that the LORAN system will be preserved, but not as you know it. It will become enhanced LORAN or eLORAN by name. Don't think your existing LORAN-C receiver or charts will be able to use its new capabilities. The RTCM didn't recommend keeping it so as they didn't have more standards to write and equipment to sell.
Interesting that one argument is that we duffer are not capable of navigating without GPS and therefore must have a back-up when it fails on a regular basis. Wait around and it'll be mandated carriage too.

Looking for a Vector II Loran owner's manual

Hello,

I am looking for an owner's manual for a Vector II Loran (West Marine, probably manufactured around 1987-1992).

Even a copy would be much appreciated, and I'd be happy to purchase it.

Also, what is the understanding on enhanced Loran? Will these older Loran units still be able to pick up the basic signals?

Thanks for any information!

I don't think you can have too many backups and ways of cross referencing your fixes. Keep LORAN
