Agreed with the post above - nmea connection to the boats instruments, no issues at all in about 15+ Years.


Until very recently I used two laptops, a 15" on the boat, dedicated to the boat, never moved. I had a netbook to take ashore for portability. Contrary to the post early on, I have changed Laptops 3 x in 15 years, 2x not due to failure, but because I wanted new features. The other time it was an old unit and a fan failed, so I biffed it.
Recently I have changed to a 12v PC for on-board, and a tablet for portability...
Oh, if you think that this long-lived reliability is because they were toughened machines, they were ordinary office laptops. And the boat is well used, locally and offshore. Laptops can be a great solution.
