Key West to Waderick Wells

Looking at a Key West to Exumas Land and Sea Park run.
Draw 6 feet; speed 7 knots.
North or South around Andros?
Very shallow on the south.
North, across the bank and down around New Providence?

Re: Key West to Waderick Wells

Ben a few years, but WW was not a port of entry, so need to include a stop along the way.

Cat Cay was private but the north end a good place to hit the Bank, clear in Nassau, and
Head for Park.

Unless you have detailed local knowledge to the contrary, stick north of Andros.

And Frankly is right, you NEED to check in at a port of entry somewhere along the way. We have been stopped twice by the RBDF while in the Exumas for a paperwork check. I don't know what would have happened if things were not in order, but I do know I don't want to find out for myself.

We did the trip a few years ago and it worked out well. We stayed in Hawks Channel until abeam Marathon, then direct to Castle Rock, across the banks to the Tongue of the Ocean, then SE to Nassau to check-in. We rested at a marina, topped off with water and fuel and then to the Exumas.

Re: Key West to Waderick Wells

We have done the trip from kw and marathon several times... I would depart kw on a north wind and head east to Marathon, or even Rodriguez and drop anchor and rest until a good window to cross..(crossing in a north wind is bumpy at best)

When window opens, we cross the stream and get on the banks at south riding rock, and, continue on to ne channel light. From there we turn south to Morgan's bluff to clear in. But Nassau or Chubb cay would work as well.. Marathon to Morgan's is about 30 hours or so for us.. Figure a long day to get to highbourne in the northern Exumas, and a day from there to warderick.. Favorable winds of course..

And remember, you may/will be waiting for wx windows to move... In Dec /January it is not unheard of to wait weeks for a window to cross the stream ..

Six foot draft should not be an Issue
Good luck,
