Re: iNavX update Aug 23, 2016 - Problems

I recently did the update and although my charts work, there are some bothersome glitches that I have found - routes can only be accessed from the waypoints menu, anchor alarm doesn't seem to function and unable to add intermediate waypoints to an existing route - likely more that I haven't discovered.
Inav support has acknowledged my not and say they are working to correct - update soon I hope!

Re: iNavX update Aug 23, 2016 - Problems

Ok, After doing a fresh install on an iphone, the program locked up often. The install from apple app store was 4.7.4 . I did the update to version 5.0, and the program exited when it tried to get noaa charts.
I have never used this device for this program before. It will be a long time time before I accept any updates for iNavx.

Re: iNavX update Aug 23, 2016 - Problems

Here are some screenshots from the new Version: DO NOT UPDATE!!!

The last shot I took from my old IPad I keep on the boat as a spare. I took out the SIM card and it stays hooked to my Digital Yacht Wifi network so it cannot update without me doing something or changing networks. My AIS on my AIr2 and IPhone 6S does not work at all and just blinks and takes me out, so it is definitely the software.

Note the difference on the bottom menu and the large text on the submenu. I don't like either of them and wonder why they changed them?

I did get a grib file to work yesterday from home before I discovered these issues.

Whoever let this update out should be fired.Click image for larger version

Re: iNavX update Aug 23, 2016 - Problems

Version 5.0.1 has been released which fixes my charts issue but not the GRIB file issue or a new issue I noticed with editing of waypoints. Apparently it also fixes a problem with the anchor alarm, which I was unaware of.

Re: iNavX update Aug 23, 2016 - Problems

All seems to work again just fine now and have it back on UDP connection after using the TCP/IP Workaround.
The changes to layout might take 10minutes to get used to but I'm sure they'll be just fine.
I'd be more interested in them fixing the problem of navigating around the dateline which is nigh on impossible right now.

Interesting. I noticed a change in layout last night but didn't see the update until reading this thread.

I use NOAA raster and CHS raster charts. Been in Canada for a while so that's what I'm using. I've not had a problem. But I network nothing and just use it to see the charts.

How about renaming routes. Last version you could just tap and rename. It doesn't seem to work now. Any ideas ?

I got my AIS to work after the fix. To rename a route go to the upper right corner on the route page and hit the symbol and you see a drop down menu with options. Personally, I prefer the previous version to this. It was more intuitive than this one.

Ah ha ! Thanks. Didn't think to push that icon.

There is a new duplicate function... If it was in earlier versions I missed it entirely. Under the same section/icon as the rename route. That will be very helpful. So perhaps all is not lost on having to learn the new version locations.

Much like the crazy changes to Microsoft word a few years ago !

iNavX update Aug 23, 2016 - Problems

I don't really understand why programmers just change things that already work. The need to upgrade should make an improvement of some kind. This update is less intuitive and also starts up very slowly compared to the previous version. I'm sure we will all adapt to it, but change for change sake is not in my list of improvements.

Re: iNavX update Aug 23, 2016 - Problems

Can anyone explain how to turn on and set up the anchor alarm on the update? The menu now reads "NO ANCHOR ALARM" with a green on/off switch next to it.

Cheers

Ken

Kenomac: I just tried my anchor alarm and it will set. I've never used it, so don't know how it was before. My version is 5.0.2 and the update addressed the anchor alarm.

I recently raised 2 issues with iNavx support.

1. I suggested an enhancement so that the keyboard can also be used to add or edit waypoint coordinates as well as the scroll wheel.

2. I asked for an update about the long running dateline issue which is a huge problem if you sail in this area. I will not renew my Xtraverse subscription till this issue is fixed. Their reply which is below sounds promising.

Hi Steve,

We have already submitted a new build to Apple with a fix for the Navionics issue. Just waiting on their approval before we can release.

Thanks again for your patience.

Ok thanks Shaun,

That dateline issue is a real big problem for the user community & as a result iNavx is losing a huge amount of credibility amongst South Pacific cruisers. Due to this major problem which has been an issue for years there is no way that the app could be recommended to anyone cruising in this area.

No other chart plotters using Navionics charts have this issue so your team really need to fix it as a high priority.

Steve

Hi Steve,

That is a nice idea about changing the input method for coordinates. I'll share it with the dev team to see if they can add it to the product roadmap.

In regards to the dateline issue, this is actually an extremely complicated fix. The team has been working on a fix though at this time I am not sure what their timeline is.

Thanks again for your continued support and patience.

Thanks for you reply Shaun about the Units.

My question about adding waypoints asked if there was another way than using the scroll wheel which is very time consuming when adding a lot of waypoints. I would like to also be able to manually add them using the keyboard which would be so much faster. Would be a nice improvement while retaining the scroll wheel as well.

Could you also advise if there are any plans to resolve the long running issue when navigating near the International Dateline. This makes the application virtually useless for travelling between waypoints or using routes as they go right around the world in the WRONG DIRECTION. This should be a well known issue within iNavx that really needs to be fixed & is the Achilles heel of the app for sailing or passage planning in such an area, like Fiji which is a very popular cruising destination in the South Pacific.

Regards,
Steve

@Ken, have you updated your version to 5.0.2 as yet?
