ICW with a big beam?

Wondering if the 26' beam on my tri will prevent me from sailing the ICW?

Re: ICW with a big beam?

Nope. Tugs with tows (they actually push them) are wider than that.

Your beam may make it hard to find a marina slip though.

When entering a narrow waterway or the rock pile in NC, you should make a call on the VHF warning other boaters.

Re: ICW with a big beam?

Thanks for the heads up, and the good news that if the weather precludes sailing outside, we can go down the ditch some day.

Will make a note of the rocks!

The danger in the rock pile is that a barge will be coming the other way. Even in a standard sized boat it's a good idea to call before entering to make sure a barge or wide vessel is not coming towards you.

Elliot Cut near Charleston, SC is another narrow area with a swift tidal current. I wouldn't want to meet you there.

BTW: I used to live near Adamstown. Hyattstown, to be specific. Retired to SC ten years ago.
