What other manufactures had you in mind. Ie are you comparing commercial or semi commercial sets like furuno , sailor etc or only ones aimed at the leisure Market. In reality ICOM are one of the few aiming MF/HF sets at the leisure user.

Performance is good , 802 has some very fiddly connectors that have to made up. But all in all ICOM is good gear.

Thanks - I was looking at non-commercial use - getting my general lic. (to help understand the background of SSB/HAM) and going with the 710-21. I thoght about a SAT phone, but the more I think about it, the SSB is going to open more comm doors. Cruising is limited to the Islands for now. Thoughts?
