Help! Garmin nRoute / Map Source / GPS Problem

Hello, I am having a problem setting up a decent chart plotting device for the South Western Caribbean.

We have Garmin MapSource Atlantic 2008.5 and Americas 2008.5, we also have nRoute installed for the realtime navigation chartplotting. The maps on both have full detail until I connect our Garmin GPS72 via USB, then for some reason the nRoute map losses all map detail???

Would anyone happen to know why the nRoute map drops all map detail after making contact with the GPS???

Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers,
Meck

Welcome to the wonderful world of Garmin. Many Garmin dealers don't even know this. I had to hear it from Garmin techs on the phone directly.

nroute is written to specifically exclude their marine chart products.

To me, that kind of protectionism is a slap in the boater's face. Sure, give it away for free to car drivers, but those stink'in rich boaters can pay, so lets soak'em.

Boo Garmin !

Stupid protectionism at it's best: take away fetaures from one offer to force consumers to buy another more expensive (like a chartplotter in this case).

I would suggest going back to an older MapSource version, before they pulled out the GPS tracking from it because they realized that people where (horror!) using it.

I believe version 6.5 was the last to offer GPS tracking.

Old installers are here: Index of /perry/mapsource

Hallo Meck,
Ï encouter the same problem last year. After reinstalation and probably new version MapSource or NRoute it works.
But write exactly what version you use.
The versions that work with me are:
BlueCharts 9.5
MapSource 6.14.1
NRoute 2.7.6
But version of MapSource doesn't have any relation to mentioned problem. Maybe USB drivers??? Who knows.

Many Thanks ! I never knew that older versions of Mapsource were GPS enabled. 6.4 works great, even has USB or serial choice.

Hey, I got it figured out. Turns out for some reason nRoute was not seeing my GPS so I downloaded a program called GPSgate from a company called franson. It enabled me to setup both the USB/Serial Garmin 72 and the blue tooth wireless GPS unit (NEMA non Garmin) that I bought a few months ago. Now I can have two GPS units on standby when chart plotting and GPSgate keeps them organized and communicating properly with nRoute.

I found a wealth of info on forum called "Laptop GPS World" check it out!
