I just got a montana 650t like new on CL for 300.

I like it WAYYYYYY better than the oregon. Way better battery life, easier to use, bigger screen, and the camera's actually surprisingly useful too.

I hope no body takes offence at this suggestion but if you Google Search: the first thing that is on the page is a video I made about using a hand held GPS and paper charts. I did it in the hope that many sailors would have an easy system to plot position even when tired.

Just loaded a free GPS app on my Blackberry. Gives me Latitude and Longitude, speed (in knots, miles or km) also altitude. Supposedly works even if out of range of cellular stations. Have not checked this out yet. But, as long as you have a chart nearby you'll be able to plot where you are and free is a good price IMO.
