PLS help.

With PW, you don't actually download, you just go to the site, and then similar to GribUS, select the area of interest, then view up to 7 days worth. Again like GribUS, it can also be animated.

Re: GRIB US, or UGRIB Replacement

I have been using the old viewfax for years. It pretty limited, but it downloads GFS data very well and displays it nicely enough. Maybe I need to get with the times?

Well, give it a go, then you will know

There are a lot of options out there - can get confusing at times, then we have to sail our boats ........

With Predict wind, Ugrib, etc. the grib file is downloaded to your computer

A-ha.

So not quite a substitute for GribUs. With GribUs you could download your own data for any given area.

This is what ZyGrib does now.

Talking Re: GRIB US, or UGRIB Replacement

Global Marine Networks (commercial comms provider) offers a free GRIB download service.
The description/instructions are here:
GRIB File Download Instructions | Global Marine Networks

They recommend opening the files with PW but I have used ZyGrib viewer successfully.

If you are at sea and have only cellular or satellite, it allows to send short email and to get back the requested GRIB file for offline use.

Hope it helps

Re: GRIB US, or UGRIB Replacement

Ocpn grib_pi will request very small walking gribs over1.2. 3,7, selectable days at whatever resolution you want, and get just the most necessary data, to reduce size. These files can be made quite small for radio transmission.

qtVlm can also be used to view/download gribs (1 or 2) on all platforms. The grib viewer/downloader module is free on Android and iOS.

Try this (I have not yet fully investigated):
