GPSnavX & GPSenc

Hi,

Are there any users of the GPSnavX chartplotter software?

I'm a committed Mac nut and have downloaded the demo - very nice looking software. I'd love to hear from users who've actually tested this software in anger.

The software is GREAT! I used MacENC all last season without even the slightest trouble. The support is instant and from the developer/proprietor. I couldn't say more about this software and the support for it.

I recently started using Fugawi on a PC we have and miss MacENC quite a bit. Fugawi is good. It does the job, but it's not as elegant as MacENC. I am in the process of putting OSX on to the PC we have so I can use a cheap computer (if it gets wet) *and* have MacENC back.

I keep the Mac in a waterproof case when we're not using it. The PC? It can rot. ha ha ha

I was thinking of basing it on a MiniMac system - cheap & cheerful and it could be remotely placed to protect it from the elements. There are a lot of automobile systems that use a DC-DC converter to power the Mini and you can also get automobile 12V screens for your display (though you'd have to be canny about the waterproofing).

Anyway, I've just today received my BU-353 UPS GPS, tried it with GPSnavX and can confirm that my desk is not moving and that it is located in Hong Kong. I'd have to wait till daylight and climb a mountain to do that with my sextant!

It really is beautiful software and I think I'll just go ahead and purchase a copy of MacENC.

Hey Vasco,

I was born & raised in TO and raced a CS 36 around the harbour on the good old Wednesday evening 'round the cans' races (bosses boat though!). I hope that's still going on.

But the Peak! I've hiked it but me wallet is some twenty-odd million short of becoming a resident there.

But, tomorrow is race day in Happy Valley so all that could change...

I used GPSNAVX for three seasons now and it works very well. The guy is always sending out updates and improvements. It's evolved into a very noce package. The only infortunate thing right now is there is no Mac support for a SSB/email system.

Check OCENS. Their MaxGate is in beta and works very well.
