GPS in android tablets

Hi all.
I recently installed a new Raymarine Instrument package in Meltemi. It's a really good system and can support up to five WiFi connected devices.
My question is. What is the best Android tablet with GPS to link to this to provide an additional navigation station away from the main chart plotter down below. This is so i have a plotter in the cockpit or at the wheel. Partner and i are doing the Melbourne to Osaka race two handed in march 2018 and then extended Pacific cruise after that. We will be out of 4G range for most of that time so assisted gps is no good.
One recommendation is the Panasonic fz B2 toughpad with added GPS chip.
Its waterproof and looks good,. Any other ideas.
Thanks

I use Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8" I like it so much that i just purchased a second one for a spare. You really don't need the latest and greatest for a repeater. My second Tab A cost $120 . The Griffen Survivor case i use it in cost $36 from Amazon.

Assisted GPS normally just means the phone will use phone towers to help fix the position when the GPS coverage is poor, like inside a building, or to help establish the inital position more rapidly.

Outside phone coverage areas assisted GPS works like a normal GPS. It is a slighly ambigious term so it is worth checking the device does indeed have a GPS chip installed, but it is rare for that not to be the case these days.

There has been some suggestion that assisted GPS devices download the satellite almanac via the phone towers. The implication is that if outside phone coverage areas for long periods the GPS may fail. I have never met a cruising sailor who has reported a practical problem where this has occurred so I suspect it not issue, but it would be interesting to hear any reports.

Thanks for those replies. Anyone else. Technology moves so fast it's hard to keep up.
Much appreciated.
