Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP is OK with 4.2.0

GE2KAP works fine with latest OpenCPN 4.2.0 after putting the V16 .dll in the Plugins folder.

Re:SAS Planet .ini file

On new installations I am unable to get SAS Planet to retain changes to the .ini file to allow GE2KAP to make charts! I have attempted on two different machines and two external memory drives.

My workaround is to use the .ini file from my machine.

Any ideas? Any one else have this problem?

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Terry I think you should upload the two ini files with labals which says which one works so that they can be inspected.

Also where did you find the dll?
David Kester will be very interested.
Additionally it is possible to package the plugin so that that dll installs automatically for windows users.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Are you sure SasPlaanet was not running when you made the changes? When it terminates itw writes out the SasPlanet.INI from storage thus removing any changes you make while its running.

I believe I had a corrupted file. I downloaded SAS Planet again and it now saves the .ini changes.

Sorry to bother the forum

When I saved the SASPlanet program to an external drive it was saved as 'Read Only'. By removing this attribute and then running the program, making the .ini file changes and restarting ... it saved the .ini file changes, since it could now write to the file. This was confirmed by closing and restarting the program.

But then after closing a check of the attributes showed it to be 'Read only' once again. However it was possible to make changes that were saved in the .ini file.

Go figure.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Terry, I'm now using GE2KAP/SASPlanet overlay with SAS "Maps" and "Layers" set to Google Earth. This makes a cleaner Google Earth Chart with no Google Earth info. There is the arrow and circle but it is smaller and less obtrusive.

David, I've made hundreds of charts recently using GE2KAP and SAS Planet. You actually have three satellite resources .. Google Earth, Bing and Nokia/Digital Globe. For the latter you can have just Digital Globe or a hybrid that shows land features such as roads and place names. I take a quick look of all three to find the best one and find the Nokia hybrid to often be the best.

I've also used the Navionics resource as well but the position errors can be a problem

Paul shows how to delete the arrow in his tutorials though we are stuck with the unobtrusive red dot. It is also described in the Help file of GE2KAP under 'Removing Goto Arrow'.

Happy charting!

Terry,
Where have you found Navionics positioning problems?

When I use Navionics I set Maps>Google>Satellite and Layers>Marine Maps>Navionics. This causes you to see the land masses. So far the land/water seem to match pretty well. Of course this says nothing about depths etc.

One time I think I saw SAS plot some google earth data badly. I had used GE to create a canal route and then looked at the route with SAS>Maps>google earth. The route didn't match the canal in some places; however, when I used ge2kap/SAS it came out well.

I don't bother with the arrow since you cant get rid of the dot.

Indonesia and Papua New Guinea are some of the worst.

First image is an anchorage in PNG.

Second image is with Navionics layer turned on.

Anywhere I can download P Higgins video that's running when I start up GE2KAP, just to have it on a hard drive instead

Try here...

Or if that doesn't work there's a link in the help page to tutorials.
